چکیده

An algorithm for an extended reactive dynamic user equilibriummodel of pedestrian counterflow as a continuum is developed. It is based on a cell-centered high-resolution finite volume scheme with a fast sweeping method for an Eikonal-type equation on an orthogonal grid. A high-order total variation diminishing Runge–Kutta method is adopted for the time integration of semi-discrete equations. The numerical results demonstrate the rationality of the model and efficiency of the algorithm. Some crowd pedestrian flow phenomena, such as dynamic lane formation in bi-directional flow, are observed which are helpful for a global comprehension of pedestrian dynamics. Also, the model can be utilized with different potential applications. 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Effects of Multi-directionality on Pedestrian Flow Characteristics

In design and analysis, standard references assume the pedestrian flow as unidirectional. In reality however, pedestrian flow is usually bi-directional. The main question pursued in this paper is that whether the main characteristics of pedestrian flow the same under uni- and bi-directional conditions. In order to achieve this goal, effect of bi-directional stream is inv...

Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models

Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...

Calibration of Pedestrian Simulation Model for Signalized Crosswalk in Hong Kong

This paper presents the calibration of a pedestrian simulation model for simulating pedestrian movements at a selected signalized crosswalk in Hong Kong. This model is able to estimate the variations of walking speed particularly under conditions with bi-directional pedestrian flows. A simulation software package, Service Model, was adopted to develop the pedestrian simulation model for the sel...

High order computational scheme for a dynamic continuum model for bi-directional flow

In this paper, we present a high-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory (WENO) scheme, coupled with a high-order fast sweeping method, for solving a dynamic continuum model for bidirectional flow. We first review the dynamic continuum model for bi-directional flow. This model is composed of a coupled system of a conservation law and an Eikonal equation. Then we present the first-order Lax-F...

Simulation model of bi-directional pedestrian considering potential effect ahead and behind

This paper presents a simulation model for bi-directional pedestrian behavior. Guide effect and press effect performed by pedestrians with same direction, and contain effect performed by opposite pedestrians were considered as potential effects. Potential field was defined to simulate the complex interactions, which provided an effective and integrated approach to depict the immediate effects i...
